How to Build and Scale Without Burning Cash: My Favorite Resources for Bootstrap Startups

Building SAAS startup is incredibly challenging. Itโ€™s a two sided problem where you have to build the product and sell it simultaneously. I have learnt that bootstrapping software development makes it more easier to start and sell something while you gain traction to assemble your real product.

If you are building in SAAS domain, I think you should have general sense of the market and the current trend. The following article shares a snippet from the State of Software report.

Two of my favourite tools this year for App development have been Airtable and Supabase.

Airtable provide a complete backend functionality with UI controls that lets you do everything in UI space without feeling limited in terms of functionality.

Anyone can start with the similar excel like interface and see data in different views. Then automate workflow with simple yet powerful automations. Finally publish a fully functioning app with its built in interfaces or connect with No Code UI builder like Stacker or Glide.

I love exploring Open Source project especially self hosted ones which i can quickly try out get instant value and then decide the features when I want to completely build from scratch.

One such repository is awesome self hosted, a curation of Open source self hosted project that you can try your self based on your use case.

Another tool that has won my heart is SupaBase. I use to love Firebase due its nature of low ops and getting to production faster, but hated the vendor lock-in. Supabase is completely open source and built on my favourite DB, PostgreSQL. There managed hosted service scales with breeze and let you focus on your end applications with there robust SDK.

Checkout the following video for a sprint tutorial on building full stack apps with Next.js and Supabase.
